Supporting Tamil youth in achieving their full potential

TYO UK stands in #solidarity with our kin from the #University of #Jaffna Student's Union.

Even though the Sri Lankan Government has announced that the war has come to an end about ten years ago, Tamils still don’t have any basic human rights, resulting in enormous hardship because of their identity.

The #Student’s Union at the University of Jaffna have made the following requests:

1) Release all #Tamil political prisoners who are imprisoned in several prisons in Sri Lanka, immediately and unconditionally.

2) Immediately revoke the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) and to hold any inquiries impartially.

3) Tamils who were #disappeared by the Sri Lankan Security Forces should receive impartial investigation.

The Oxford Union must do more to question Sri Lanka’s human rights record. They must highlight the importance of freedom of speech restrictions in the constitution of Sri Lanka, as a key contributing to many of the injustices and the unresolved tension in the island. #tamil #srilanka #voicegenocide
