இத்தனை காலமாக புலம்பெயர் நாடுகளில் வாழும் ஈழத் தமிழர் எவ்வளவோ போராட்டங்கள் செய்து வந்த போதிலும் தாய் தமிழ் நாடு மக்கள் அமைதியாகவும் பாராமுகமாகவும் இருந்தது ஒரு குறையாகவே இருந்து வந்தது. எங்கள் அவலத்தை பற்றிய விழிப்புணர்வோ அதை ஒட்டிய எழுச்சியோ கோடி கணக்கிலுள்ள தாய் தமிழ் நாட்டு மக்கள் இடையில் இல்லாமை என்பது ஏமாற்றத்தையே இத்தனை காலமும் தந்தது.

ஆனால் அக்குறையை தீர்த்து தமிழ் நாடு முழுவதும் ஈழ உணர்வு பற்றி எரியும் பொருட்டு உங்கள் போராட்டங்கள் அமைந்துள்ளது. இதைத் தான் இத்தனை காலமும் புலம்பெயர் ஈழத் தமிழர்களும் தாயகத்தில் வாழும் உடன் பிறப்புகளும் எதிர் பார்த்தோம்.

தாய் மண்ணின் விடிவிற்கான போரட்டத்தை எங்கள் தேசிய தலைவர் மேதகு வேலுப்பிள்ளை பிரபாகரன் அவர்கள் இளையோர் கையில் 2008 ஆம் ஆண்டு மாவீரர் உரையின் மூலம் ஒப்படைத்தார். அதை நன்கு புரிந்து புலம்பெயர்ந்து வாழும் இளையோரும், குறிப்பாக ‘தமிழ் இளையோர் அமைப்புகளும்’ செயல்பட்டு வருகிறது. இவர்களுடன் தாய்த் தமிழ் நாட்டு மாணவர்களும் கைகோர்க்கும் வண்ணம் வீறுகொண்டு எழுந்து புரட்சியுடன் போராடுவது புலம்பெயர் ஈழ தமிழர்களிற்கும் தாயக உறவுகளிற்கும் புத்துணர்வும் உற்சாகமும் அளித்துள்ளது.

எங்களது போராட்டம் ஓயவில்லை மாறாக அது மாபெரும் சக்தியாக உருவெடுத்துள்ளது. அதுவும் மாணவர்கள் சக்தியாக, 1972 ஆம் ஆண்டு தமிழர்களுக்கு எதிராக பேரினவாத இலங்கை அரசால் உருவாக்கப்பட்ட அரசியல் யாப்பினால் கோபம் அடைந்த அன்றைய மாணவர்களாக இருந்த தேசியத்தலைவரும் அவரது நண்பர்களும் தங்களது பாரிய எதிர்ப்பினை காட்டினார்கள் அதேபோல உங்களிடம் இருக்கும இந்த உத்வேகம் எங்களது சுதந்திர தமிழீழ தனியரசை அடைய என்றும் எங்களோடு இருக்கும் என்று இளையோரகிய நாம் கருதுகின்றோம்.

இன்று எமது போராட்டம் சர்வதேசமயப்படுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளது, எல்லா நாடுகளும் எம்மை உற்றுநோக்கிய வண்ணம் உள்ளார்கள். சனல் 4 தனது ஊடகதின் மூலம் எமது மக்களின் பல அவல நிலைகளை வெளிக்கொண்டு வருகிறது. ஆனாலும் சர்வதேசம் இப்பவும் எமது மக்களின் குரல்களை செவிசாய்ப்பதாக இல்லை. ஜெனிவாவில் நடைபெறவுள்ள ஐக்கிய நாடுகள் சபையின் மாநாட்டில், இலங்கையின் போர்க்குற்றங்கள் தொடர்பாக அமெரிக்கா தீர்மானம் கொண்டுவரவுள்ள நிலையில்,இலங்கையில் நடைபெற்றவை போர்க்குற்றமோ அல்லது மனித உரிமை மீறல்களோ அல்ல; அது இன அழிப்பு என்ற உங்கள் தெளிவான நிலைப்பாட்டை நாம் வரவேற்கின்றோம். அத்துடன் மாணவர்களாகிய நீங்கள் முன்வைத்திருக்கும் அனைத்துலக சுயாதின விசாரணை, இலங்கை மீது பொருளாதாரத் தடை விதிக்க வேண்டும் மற்றும் ஈழத் தமிழர்கள் மத்தியில் பொது வாக்கெடுப்பு நடத்த வேண்டும் போன்ற உங்களதுகோரிக்கைகளை நாம் வரவேற்கிறோம்.

அன்று தொட்டு இன்று வரை தமிழர்களுக்கான எந்த உரிமைகளும் உரியமுறையில் வழங்கப்படவில்லை.அடக்குமுறைகளும் சமுதாய சீர்கேடுகளும் குறைந்தபாடில்லை அதேபோல எமது தாயக நிலப்பரப்புகளும் தமிழர்களின் அடையாளங்களும் வெகு வேகமாக பறிக்கப்பட்டுக் கொண்டிருக்கிறது. மக்களின் மற்றும் மாணவர்களின் குரல்களும் இனவாத அரசினால் தொடர்ச்சியாக அடக்கப்பட்டுக் கொண்டிருகிறார்கள். அடக்குமுறைகளுக்குள் அடைபட்டு கிடக்கும் இனம் அல்ல நாம், போராடுவோம் இறுதி வரை போராடுவோம்.

உங்கள் போராட்டம் வெற்றி பெற எமது வாழ்த்துக்கள், மாணவர் புரட்சி வெடிக்கட்டும் சுதந்திர தமிழீழ அரசு பிறக்கட்டும்!

However On the other side of room the atmosphere was quite different the clashing of wooden blocks with giggling children playing caram, for many children it was the first time they where playing and they where so fascinated . From old men to young children everyone was enjoying themselves

A Celebration included us drawing of Kolam & cooking of delicious Pongal outside where direct sun light was present. A fire wood hearth was set up using three bricks. The cooking began by putting a clay pot with water on the hearth. Once the water had boiled each TYO member ceremoniously put a handful of rice in. Then other ingredients of this special dish are added e.g. chakkarai (brown cane sugar) milk, cashew nuts etc.

Anticipation grew as everyone watched the milk gradually boil up and people began to say “Pongal-o Pongal” as the milk boiled over into the sunlight. Finally after spending so much time the cold, everyone gathered inside, to enjoy eating their Pongal while enjoying a game of Carrom!

The Tamil Youth were told to pass on a New Year’s resolution as a video stating something along the lines of  ”My new year’s resolution as a youth of the Tamil Diaspora is to keep fighting for our freedom, our right to self-determination. To stand side-by-side, shoulder-to-shoulder with our brothers and sisters back home. To stand in solidarity with the youth fighting against the oppression back home. To take the path our Thalaivar and our Maaveerars showed us in winning the freedom of Tamil Eelam.”

The youth were also given the opportunity to add anything else personal that they wanted to mention.  Social networking sites such as facebook, twitter and youtube were used as the platform to promote and share these videos. A group video combining a few personal ones was put together, edited and uploaded on the TYO UK youtube account. In addition to this, personal videos were put up on personal accounts, which were also shared around.

The videos were received very well by the audience and they received many positive feedbacks. One of the feedbacks received were from Australia stating, “You are all doing good work, I wish we have such active young Tamils in Melbourne”. It was successful in the sense that it brought together the Tamil Youth who all expressed the same aim, to achieve the freedom of Tamil Eelam.

A heart-felt speech, personally written, was given by Tiksi Sribalakrishnan, a student from the University of Leicester where she said, “Swiss, France, Canada, UK. This is not our country, our country is back there and it is called Tamil Eelam. These Maaveerars fought for you and me, for us. And they don’t even know us, but they gave their lives anyway. Why, because we’re Tamils. That was the only reason.” She ended the speech saying, “It is our duty to remember these Heroes, Our Heroes. But that’s not it; we need to get involved in the struggle. Our duty as Tamil Youth is to carry the struggle forward, the way Our Thalaivar and Maaveerars showed us.”

A documentary on the burning of the Jaffna Library was also played during the remembrance event. The remembrance event was peacefully and emotionally marked by the students of Leicester.

என்ற பாரதிதாசனின் கூற்றுக்கு இணங்க, நாம் புலம் பெயர்ந்து வாழ்ந்தாலும் எமது மொழியையும் அதன் பெருமையையும் எமக்கும், எமது எதிர்கால சமுதாயத்திற்கும், எங்கள் தமிழ் மொழியின் அருமையை எடுத்துரைத்து, தொடர்ந்தும் எமது மொழியை பின்பற்ற அவர்களை ஊக்குவிப்பதே எங்களுடைய இந்த போட்டியின் நோக்கமாகும்.

கற்க கசடற – ௩ ன் போட்டிகள் தென் கிழக்கு லண்டனில் நடைபெற்ற முதல் அரைசுற்றில் தொடங்கி, அதை தொடர்ந்து தென் மேற்கு , வட கிழக்கு , வட மேற்கு  ஆகிய  மூன்று இடங்களிலும் அரைச்சுற்று  இடம்பெற்று, அதிலிருந்து தெரிவான போட்டியாளர்கள் மத்தியில் இடம்பெற்ற போட்டி இறுதி சுற்றாக lewisham Sivan Koyil  மண்டபத்தில் இடம் பெற்றது.

இறுதி சுற்றி முடிவடைந்த நிலையில், போட்டியில் பங்கு பெற்று வெற்றி பெற்றவர்களுக்கான பரிசளிப்பு விழா ஏற்பாடு செய்யப்பட்டு, இனிதே நடைபெற்றது. பரிசளிப்பு விழாவில் நடனம் , பாடல், பேச்சு ஆகிய கலைநிகழ்ச்சிகள் இடம்பெற்றன. போட்டியாளர்கள், அவர்களின் பெற்றோர்கள், உறவினர்கள் நடுவர்கள் என அனைவரும் நடைபெற்ற கலைநிகழ்ச்சிகளை  கண்டு களித்தனர். கலைநிகழ்வுகளின் இடையிடையே  வெற்றி  பெற்றவர்களுக்கான பரிசுகளும் வழங்கப்பட்டது.

தமிழ் இளையோர் அமைப்பால் ஏற்பாடு செய்யப்பட்டு நடைபெற்ற, இந்த போட்டி முயற்சியை வந்திருந்த பெற்றோர்கள், நண்பர்கள், நடுவர்கள் என எல்லோரும் பாராட்டும் விதமாக ஊக்கப்படுத்தி அவர்களது மகிழ்ச்சியையும் தெரிவித்திருந்தனர்.

” இதில் இருக்கும் சரி பிழைகளை கடந்து, உங்கள் முயற்சி எங்களுக்கு நம்பிக்கை தருவதாக உள்ளது, உங்கள் முயற்சிகள் இன்னும் மேலும் வழர வேண்டும், வாழ்த்துக்கள்” என்று எமது நடுவர்களில் ஒருவரான திரு.ஆறுமுகம் அய்யா அவர்கள் தெரிவித்திருந்தார். பெற்றோர்களும் தங்கள் பாராட்டுகளை தெரிவித்ததொடு, இது போன்ற நிகழ்வுகள் மேலும் வழர அறிவுரைகளையும் வழங்கி இருந்தனர்.

இவ்வாறாக, தமிழ் இளையோர் அமைப்பு – ஐக்கிய இராச்சியத்தினால் ஏற்பாடு செய்யப்பட கற்க கசடற-௩ ன் போட்டிகளை தொடர்ந்து பரிசளிப்பு விழ இனிதே நடைபெற்றது.

TYO endeavours to preserve, promote and nurture our cultural heritage by initiating and sustaining our involvement within the Tamil community. Part of this proposal includes implementing educational programming to promote awareness and pass on our identity as Tamils onto the next generation in an appropriate manner, hence TYO’s introduction to Katka Kasadara.

Katka Kasadara-3 kick started with its first regional round in South East London on the 8^th December 2012 followed by its other 3 regional round in SW London, NE and NW London on the 15^th and 16^th December 2012 respectively.

Followed by the regional round was the final round between carefully elected participants. The final round was held at Lewisham Sivan Koyil on the 23^rd December 2012.

Following the final round of competition, was the prize giving ceremony; the ceremony was a cultural show which was a combo cultural dance, songs, speeches and poems.  All parents, relatives and friends of our competitors were present to congratulate the winners at the prize giving and to enjoy the performance of our performers.

The acts were enlightening and mixture of all type including the Nattuppura nadanam, Bhrathanattiyam, Kavadi nadanam, etc.  A speech titled “Thamil Engal Uyirmoochu” given by a 6 year old was the most inspirational Tamil speech that was ever given at our Katka kasadara prize giving ceremonies where she spoke about the importance of preserving our identity and language.

We have heard such feedback from the crowd as “you’re doing a really great job, more than the how it is organised, we appreciate the effort you have put into to organise one, Keep it up”, we were also given constructive feedbacks from the crowd which we can assure to improve on.

Therefore, Katka Kasadara -3 was accomplished successfully and all the hard works have paid off.

Tamils across the generations joined the youth by 10 Downing Street, in London on a bitterly cold Winter’s evening, to campaign for the release of the four students and for an end to the militarisation of the North-East.

Carrying placards condemning the militarisation and on-going genocide, Tamils shouted, “stop attacking Tamil students”, “self-determination, for the Tamil nation”, “Sri Lankan Army, get out of Tamil Eelam” and “let us remember our heroes”.

Addressing the protesters, Visakan from the Imperial College Tamil Society said:

“At Imperial, we were all shocked and horrified to hear the news of our very brave brothers and sisters, and fellow Tamil students in the Tamil homeland, in the Jaffna university – an environment where the students cannot even mourn our own war dead is clearly not one that is conducive to democracy… We call for the immediate release of the four students that have been detained.”

In an act of protest against the harassment, aggression, and intrusion the Jaffna university students were subjected to in the days leading up to Tamil Remembrance Day – Maveerar Naal, the students of Jaffna University boycotted classes on Wednesday 28th November and held a rally outside the campus entrance.

Security forces confronted the protest, arresting 4 students and injuring at least 20 demonstrators. The vehicle of a Tamil National Alliance (TNA) MP, who arrived at the scene after hearing reports of students being assaulted, was also attacked and damaged.

The police force and occupying Sri Lankan military forces have been engaged in a process of harassment and intimidation with the purpose of suppressing any attempt to commemorate the day of remembrance on Tuesday 27th November. This process included armed soldiers occupying the campus of Jaffna University and storming both male and female hostel rooms where Tamil students attempted to hold private vigils in remembrance of their war dead.

It is unacceptable and reprehensible that any people or nation could be prevented by a government and its security forces from mourning and remembering its war dead. The recent events highlight more brazen attempts by Sri Lanka to deny the Tamil nation of this basic right, through intimidation, aggression and sheer violence.

Furthermore, the security forces’ attacks on the demonstrators are a gross violation of the students’ right to freedom of assembly and freedom of association.

We call on the United Kingdom, the United Nations and the international community to pressurise the Sri Lankan government towards the immediate release of the detained students.

We call on the international community to recognise the Tamil nation, as with any other nation, has a right to national remembrance,

The United Nations and the international community must recognise that Sri Lanka is showing no progress or even intention of respecting its democratic obligations. Instead Sri Lanka is further demonstrating utter disregard for the rights of Tamils on the island, as well as its intent to silence and punish any voice of dissent from the Tamil nation.

We call on the international community to recognise that these acts of repression are not singular, and are part of a historic, on-going and systematic genocide to subjugate the Tamil community – a programme that is characteristic of the Sri Lankan state since its independence in 1948.

We call for the United Nations and the international community to demand a concrete political solution to the Tamil question, taking into account the Tamil nation’s grievances, demands and right to self-determination.

In addition to our calls, we present 5 basics demands to the United Kingdom, United Nations and international community.

1. Pressurise the Sri Lankan government to immediately release the detained students.

2. Recognise the Tamil nation’s right to remember those that had given their lives fighting for Tamil rights.

3. Secure an environment for Tamil youths to freely express political aspirations.

4. Secure an environment that will allow the free exercise of democratic rights in Tamil territories.

5. Demand a political solution on the island that takes into account the Tamil nation’s grievances, demands and right to self-determination.

Our thoughts are with our brothers and sisters in the North-East who continue to face this genocide today and we stand in solidarity with them as they struggle for their right to mourn our nation’s loss.
